Roscoff
The old town runs along the back of the bay, where you will
find the pretty old fishing harbour.
Roscoff is really a multi-purpose town. Besides being a
popular seaside resort specialising in thalassotherapy, it is one of the
France’s main shellfish ports and a great centre for vegetable export.
Roscoff’s traditional beret-clad ‘Onion Johnnies’
– You will find a street which has been named rue des Johnnies to
commemorate these colourful characters, once a familiar sight the length and
breadth of the UK as they wheeled bicycles engulfed with strings of Breton
onions.
Sights to catch in the town include the splendid church of Notre-Dame-de-Kroaz-Batz,
with one of the finest of Finistère’s belfries.
The Aquarium which forms the National Centre of
Scientific Research.
The viviers, one of the largest open-sea breeding
grounds for lobster, crawfish and crab.
